I was at my LFS today, just browsing. I saw some gouramis labeled as "giant gourami". They had GORGEOUS orange and iridescent blue pelvic fin. Their bodies were solid blue. It was quite a striking coloration, one that I've never seen on a gourami before.

Just wondering if anyone could identify which variety of giant gourami this is. Always wanted a giant gourami...

That was my initial guess, jpaps, but from what I've read juvie Red Tails look just like their adult form with red trim around all fins.

This one I saw had only a bright orange trim on the pelvic fin.

Did it look like this? If so its an "Osphronemus laticlavius" or Redtail Giant gourami..

It may very well have been a Colisa fasciata, jpappy. That looks more along the lines of what was there.

I should go back and get one! Not very common in fish shops around here.

Is this the fish you saw?
If so, its not a true giant gourami. They are commonly called that, but they are also called the banded gourami. The absolute biggest they'll get is about 8".

Yep, that's gotta be the one. Thanks!!
