Has anyone ever used KENT MARINE KALKWASSER MIX?? I'm very confused with the instructions on the container. Am I supposesed to mix it the given amount per gal into fresh water and drip it into my tank?

Yes. Mix it with freshwater and slowly drip it into the tank. If it goes in too fast, it will drive the pH too high.

In the past I have used it for all my FW topoff water, and it will help keep Ca in a good range if the demand isn't too high. I used a Kent Aquadose with a DIY sloenoid valve, and you can get more elaborate with a dosing pump or kalk reactor. Somebody I knew just used a plastic cup with a hole in the bottom to release it slowly, and it worked fine for a nano.

You can also add white vinegar to the solution to reduce the pH of the solution, keep alkalinity up, and dissolve a little more Ca. I used about 50 ml per gallon of kalkwasser. Try a search on kalk or kalkwasser on the forum here, you should find some other people's opinions and a few linked articles.

Thanks now i know how to put it in.

But

How much do I put in? I have prolly 30 gallons of water in there (minus sand and rocks)

How much Kalkwasser and how much freshwater to mix together? These intructinos are too confusing.

it reads "DOSAGE: add 1/8 -2 teaspoons per gallon of freshwater. "

But

That doesn't tell me how much I need to add. Or is this just "a solution" that I continuously drip into the tank. And those instructions are how to create "the solution"

Figure the amount of top-off water you add per day and then drip that amount of solution into your tank during the night. Start with the lowest amount of kalk per gallon and test your way up to your desired calcium level.

When I started dripping kalk I was a little apprehensive of it too. For me, I add 1Tsp of kalk to 10ml of white vinegar and then mix this into 1 gallon of RO/DI water. The tank is setup with an automatic top-off and only goes through about 3.5-4 gallons of top-off per week but this gets me to 450ppm of calcium. This is for my tank though so like I said start with smaller amounts and test.

Dave guided me through the process too. Once he pointed me in the right direction and I got over the fear of screwining up my tank things have been smooth sailing ever since. Thanks Dave. :bowing:
