Keeping Clams????

I'm glad you're going to think about it, educate yourself in the meantime by reading one of the books out there on clam care. I have a Derasa and love it. I know it won't fit in my 75g eventually, but since they are slow growers, by the time it outgrows this tank, or the bigger one I'll be buying, it'll be so far down the road. It's not like a puppy or kitten that grows to full size in a year. Yes, if i plan on keeping it all through its life term I will have to keep that in mind with another upgrade.

Hey Ace it does sound funny looking back on it, like if I'm not keeping clams then its okay to have bad water. LOL

Clown ur right. I need to take it slow but that was the reason why I didn't buy the clam. I feel like I already have some ez to keep corals in my tank to soon but they are doing well. Thankfully :) Anywho I'm def gunna wait before I buy anything else for my tank. Thanx for keeping me on the right track.

And thanx to everyone else for your input. Gunna wait a lil while before I add the clam besides waiting not sure I want one cause of the size it gets. Something for me to think about and if I still want it in a few months then maybe but for now I'll stick with what I got.

I just want you to know that my respect for you has gone up 10 fold. It is hard not getting all of the fun stuff that you want to see in your tank. Believe me I understand!!! But with my tank I have gone slow and so far (knocking heavily on wood) I haven't had any major mishaps so far. I'm hoping it continues that way. I just think you'll be better in the long run if you let your tank get established, get all of that good stuff in there and in the long run you'll be more successful for it. I heard some nasty statistic the other day that almost 50% of all people who enter into saltwater quit within their first year... I think if people would just be a little more patient and understand that our oceans didn't form in a day, and their tank isn't going to form in a month or two we'd have more people staying in the hobby. Thats ultimately what I want for all who visit this site to stay in the hobby..

That is one of the reasons I love this hobby is the extensive research involved. You learn something new litterally everyday. I just learned from reading this thread not to spot feed clams that they can "choke" I have had a baby maxima (bright blue with lighter blue lines) for about 3 months now and by keeping the calcium levels up it has grown about an inch or more since then! They really are amazing creatures and to watch it grow is fascinating. Anyway, I am an impulse buyer, but this hobby has taught me patience is a virtue and research is more valuable then gold!
