keeping shrimp with a betta?

Cherries are very prolific, so I'm sure Metro would find himself a snack or two regardless. They'll keep him stimulated for sure.

I love watching shrimp forage with their little legs awhirl. They are sensitive to ammonia, so keeping up on water changes are a must. It'll be fun shrimp-watching when your plants get well established.

How big are adult cherries normally?

And what about bumble-bee shrimp? I saw 1 teeny one of those too.
 
I have what I believe to be wild-type cherries (no bright red coloring). My biggest is 1 inch... Not sure if they get much bigger.

Don't know much about bee shrimp... But I'm sure there's tons of info online!
 
My rcs(and tiger) have never had any issues, he does flare at them but they just put their feelers on him. They are at least 5 times faster then a betta, and it's not like they wouldn't see him coming. I guess it depends on the betta. To be safe, just keep an inaccessible hiding spot for them. I have a smaller piece of driftwood propped about 1/4" off the bottom on rocks, they are quite active knowing they always have somewhere to go when they want to. I keep it spaced up just enough so I can spot them under there.

My cherries are at about 1" for the two males and 1 1/4" for the female. They grew very fast, hopefully they will get jiggy with it and make some more...

If you cycle your tank you won't have any ammonia issues- also if you have copper pipes or any kind of copper in your water, this will be fatal to the shrimps as inverts are very sensitive to copper as well
 
I waz bad today. Made impulse purchase.

I found ghost shrimps for 79 cents....and then 50% off, so I took 4 to see how it went.

Now acclimated to the tank, the betta seems uninterested in them. Fingers crossed. I think they're also too big for him to eat...and he's not much of a bully so far that I've seen.
