keeping your aquarium stand level........or BOOM!

The levelness of the stand is not as important as the flatness of the top. As long as the surface that touches the base of your tank is flat then you will not have any wierd stress on the seams. If your stand is not level then your water will show it but it will not put any more stress on the tank then if the stand were level. If you are to wedge the stand do it at the floor so the full base of the tank is sitting on the flat surface of the stand.

No, both are very important. Just one will break before the other.

wow thank you very much for all the advice good stuff..... well it is now night time and i have spent the whole day shopping for equipment (i get a good discount, i work at petsmart) and well spent a few hundred just for the set up (around 230$) just for the set up, no fish included...... but its really nice, its looking amazing right now, i got a 40 gallon filter (remember my tank is only 20 gal.) got a air pump/ air pump decoration, plenty of fish food, plenty of dif. decorations, too much plants, and plenty of extra's, ( ph test kits, amonia test kits, heater, salt, bactaria stabalizer, ect.)

so im pretty set, is there any recomendations on anything i should buy???......

what kind of fish should i buy first, a pacostamist?

and i have noticed there are a ton of bubbles, and many parallel lines of bubbles accross my tank, its the oxygen, but will they start do disapear after a few days???

and also im heading out of town for 4 days anything i should put in before i leave, or kept turned off (like lights... ect..) or anything special i should do?????

please let me know i am a new fish kinda person, although i work at petsmart i work in the dog section!
:)

p.s. i left about 1 -2 inches of free space (air) at the top, didnt fill it completely full, is that a good idea? plus i plan on getting a newt, so that is one of the reasons i did so...... and is there any special care for them?? man soo many questions answer if you can, tis a challange!!

Sounds like you had fun. But the salt and bacteria stuff is not needed. It wont be needed unless you have a problem down the road.

All you need is:
-heater
-filter
-gravel
-de chlor
-test kit
-thermoniter (sp?)
-hood
-food
-light
-fish
I know Im missing something, but that sounds good so far.

The bubbles will go away in a few days. Just leave them.

If you are going to be going, I would not start the cycle till after you are back. But you can hock up all the stuff and let it run while you are gone. This will give it a chance to start up. The lighs should be put on a timer and have a approx. 12hour on and off cycle.

ok well all i need to do for the cycle is put some stress zyme in and let the filter and heter run for around 7 days right?? and i have already started that tonight, i will turn my filter on kinda medium-high (it is meant for 40 gal.) and leave my heater, filter , and air pump running while im gone, and yeah i will put the lights on timer, although there are no live things in there, so does it matter if the lights are on while im gone?

and here are some updated flix...

Don't leave the light on while you're gone, it will just encourage algae.
There is a cycling sticky you should read. Its a little complicated, and I think the general consensus is that Stress Zyme isn't helpful. I like your set-up. Is that a twenty gallon?

Hi aquatic-Bizkut. You might want to put something with weight at the bottom (shelf) so the whole unit will not be top heavy. Nice cabinet!

either your level is junk or your tank/ stand is round/ cupped in the middle. first pic showes the left side is the high side. second pic showes that the right side is high. if it was straight they would both read the same high side

the level readings are ok now, they are still off, but its kinda strait, and its not that bad..... so i should be fine......right?

and i guess i will leave my lights off while im gone..... and where is that cycling thread?

Please read the sticky on cycling. IMHO, streszyme is snake oil and a waste of money, it is not going to help your tank a bit.

Lights are not needed if there are no live plants. Save electricity and avoid algae by leaving them off.
