 Hello All,

Another equipment question here.

Until now, I have bought water from a nearby LFS. Now that I'm about to upgrade to larger tank, I did some cost/benefit calculation, and it appears that it may be more effective, cost wise and time/effort wise, to setup my own RO/DI Unit. I chose the Kent Maxxima Hi-S Ro/Di Unit (35Gal/day) as these seemed to have pretty positive reviews throughout internet.

For those of you who use this unit or are familiar with the unit, I have a question.

Basically, I work pretty busy hours and can't afford to worry about water filling up and turning it off at certain hour and stuff... So I wanted to set it up so that it fills up into a huge bucket, turn off at certain point, and start filling again once I take the water out. I see that there are 3 accessories to this unit.

1. Kent Marine Float Valve Kit For RO and RO/DI Units

2. Kent Marine Flush Valve Kit

3. Kent Marine Shut-off Valve

To accomplish my plan, do I need to purchase all three of these units? I understand what 2nd one is. The thing I don't understand is, if the float valve kit restricts producing once it's filled to certain level, why do I need to have the Shut-off valve? Of do I not need it?

Just very confused. Thank you all for your help.

I have a aquamedic RO unit and all I did was fit a simple flow restricter valve during the day when my halide's are on I close the valve till it's just a drip going into the sump to stop evaporation then at night I fill my reservoir of RO if needed or let it drip into the sink

RO shut-off

I have the Maxxima Hi-S unit, and just use a manual valve purchased at the local hardware store to shut off the water supply to the unit. I would also like to have the auto shut off in case I forget to turn it off, however haven't done this yet. I do have the flush valve kit which is recommended to rinse off the membrane to extend its life. It has a quarter turn valve when opened allows water to exit the waste line. The item 1 float valve kit sounds like what you want, and it should shut off the supply of incoming water. Item 3 is probably just a safety precaution to insure the unit is off regardless of the float position. How much are the float valve kits?

Thank you both for that answer. I appreciate it.

On petstore.com, I saw float valve go for 40 something and the shut off valve for 30 something... I think I would be willing to spend 40... as long as it works like the way you said it and doesn't require the additional shut off valve.

Thanks again!
