I went to the lfs for more information about breeding my kenyi only to find out that i might have 2 different species of fish...how do you tell the difference between kenyi, zebra, and peacock...i come to find they can all have stripes unless i am getting false info...

There are many many fish with stripes.... horizontal, vertical, you name it. The body shape is much different on mbuna than on haps, and you should know just by looking at it.

Try looking at the species profiles on malawimayhem.com, they have pictures of juvi fish there. Look at some alunocara (peacocks), kenyi (Maylandia lombardoi), and zebras (or maylandia zebra). You should be able to tell by looking at the different pictures.

Unless you post a picture, we cant tell what you have :p

oh and ps- if you are going to try breeding these guys you should do a lot more research on the type of fish they are! Read some articles, you will learn a lot. :)

From my expirience, any mbuna can have stripes, and same w/ most haps. but they if it isnt visible when they are happy, it ussually shows up when they are scared or have poor water conditions
