Okay im a newb to really testing this stuff, my plants and fish have been doing very well but my KH and GH results seem really high compared to what ive been reading about ideal water parameters. So are these results anything I really need to stress about.

KH 5 or 89.5 ppm
GH 14 or 250.6 ppm

Nope. My GH is 420. :)

okay thanks....i mean the chart on the instructions doesnt even go past 12 for GH so that kind of makes you think somethings wrong...lol

so follow up question.....what is an ideal KH/GH for most plants?

Your KH is perfect for plants and injecting CO2. If that's the level coming out of your tap you are in perfect shape. As far as GH goes, it really depends on the plant. Anubias would be a great plant for your GH as they do well in harder water. What kind of plants do have/are you interested in?

I have:

Amazon Sword
Ozelot Sword
Rotala Indica(sp)
Alternanthera roseafolia
Cabomba
Eedleaf ludwiga
and Anubias.

The only thing that does poorly is the Anubias.....go figure

I just tested this evening after my water change and vac this afternoon. My KH was 120 and my GH was 420. pH is 7.8. As for what's ideal? I dunno. My plants do fine and my Parrot's feather has begun to really shine of late. I just feel lucky I can grow plants in a tank. I suck at outdoor gardening, so my wife handles that department. ;)

Most of those plants, to my knowledge, should handle it well.

Strange about the anubias, I would expect the swords to suffer most in that GH. What's wrong with anu? Is it just slow growth?

Yeah really slow growth...which I guess is fairly normal for anubias? But also the older leaves start to get hair algae on them pretty quickly....just doesnt look that healthy.

Yeah, slow growth is the norm for anubias. I got a fairly large one not long ago. Initially it exploded in my tank, putting on 2 new leaves within a month. Now, it's slowed down, though it still takes in a bunch of nutrients and occasionally will pearl on the underside of the leaves.

GH & KH

My Readings as of today were equal, should they be?

GH= 3 drops after initial 1st drop &
KH= 3
