Killer ammonia levels

I have had 3 tetra deaths and one pictus death. One thing I did notice with the shortened numbers in the tank is that the lady shorted me one tetra. I ordered some bio-spira so I guess I will give that stuff a try.

4 tetra deaths and one pictus death. I am not so sure they are from ammonia though. I have kept it below 1ppm at 7.0 PH. I have noticed the dead fish look kind of mauled so maybe the tetras are attacking each other.

Be happy for the other Tetra that the lady shorted you one. It would surely meet the same fate your others have.

Cycling with fish means you are forcing your fish to endure the natural progressions your tank will go through to reach a final stage of balance. These natural progressions can and often do become deadly as you have witnessed.

Since you already have these fish and chances are they are probably in too bad of shape to stand much of a chance at surviving, you are left with one option if you plan to continue on. DO DAILY WATER CHANGES OF 80% OR SO!!

You can read more about what happens to your tank during cycling by searching the threads here or by doing a web search. Next time fishless cycle. You will lose less fish and less $$.

1ppm of amonia is really toxic to fish

3 is like torture lol....

dont feed them everyday from now on untill ur tank gets to normal levels...

feed every other day AND MAKE SURE THEY EAT IT ALL!!!!!
thats ur best bet

and gsk1s idea of water changes..

but 80% everday is hell for ur fish and they will probably die...
so idk man sry.....

do what i said with the feeding,,,

do 25 to 50% water changes every day and hope for the best

ALSO

if u ever do that again!!

cycle with black tetras and a pleco!!!!
u cant kill them!!!!

black tetras are like underwater cockroaches!!!!
thats what i do....

and black tetras look neat

If he were to cycle again, I'd recommend a fishless cycle, as that way, there's no need for deaths that could have been avoided.

Yea I went out of town and have not been home. I will be interested to see if they are all dead this evening.

No, I never did find any BioSpira. I used Seachems Stability instead as a precaution. It came from a name I trusted, Seachems, and does nothing but supposedly add bacteria to my tank. I don't think I really needed it in my case, but I got it just to make sure. Maybe a waste of $5 but who knows.
