i hate that theres practically no reptiles that can live in a semiaquatic tank like that, it would probably have to be a frog that does well with water

I made exactly what you are talking about, and kept guppies in the water side, and a RES, all from a 75g tank. it worked beautifully. one thing i suggest is major overfiltration for the water.. i used a big eheim canister, and it was filtering maybe 40 gallons of water.

The RES didn't bother the guppies? My African Side Neck will eat anything that it sees moving. Maybe I just have a psychotic turtle or something

oh, it tried.. but it was ultimately too slow, and there was enough water volume that they had plenty of hiding places.

I would go with a musk turtle. Much smaller and less messy.
