Has anyone had sucess or herd of sucess with keeping any killifish in brackish conditions? I'm specifically interested in Blue Lyretail/Gardener's Killi, but info on any killi that will adapt to brackish would be helpful
I have heard none about it and most killifish thrive in extremely soft and acidic water conditions which is a far cry from brackish conditions. Is there a particular reason to adapt them to brackish water? There are rainbows that thrive in brackish water but I have never heard of a single killifish species that can thrive in it or at least it seems so.
The flagfish is indeed a killifish, but just by looking at it and it's temperament, one could assume it was a chiclid.
The killifish commonly sold in stores I'd have to assume aren't brackish, but there are others. As Ruben mentioned, there are a number of US-native killis that are brackish. And some marine as well. Try looking around Franksaquarium as well, I'm sure he had brackish killis at some point.
I have two Golden Wonder Killi thriving in a BW tank. 1 male and 1 female. I have the sg at 1.012. They are beautiful. I got them from a friend that was emptying out a tank and they were very dull and colorless. I brought them home and drip acclimated them to my tank, and OMG!!! They are beautiful and very colorful fish!
