Killifish with Shrimp???? Compatiable or not.........

I have a 29 gal planted invert tank that I would like to add some fish to, but I don't want my shrimp to get picked off. I have been thinking of Killifish b/c they are so small. But don't know that much about them yet. Are they compatiable or would even their small mouths pick off baby shrimplets.

I have a pc of drift that is covered in Java Moss from bottom to top of the tank in one corner.
 
it depends...not all killifish are small in fact most get large enough to eat med size shrimp.

what types of killifish are you thinking of?..I would suggest maybe some clown killifish, if you are looking for small, they stay mostly at the top of the water so not many baby shrimp will be picked off.

ahh australe are awesome pretty fish! we have a few strains of those, they get x2s larger than the clowns and will eagerly nom down on any baby shrimp and even up to med shrimp..they have large mouths for such small fish.
oh and the clowns will stay at the top most of the time..vs the astrale will be all over the tank all the time.

what type of shrimp do you have?...and how many killifish are you planning?

size of tank and plant cover?

if you have shrimp who can out breed the amount the killifish eat than you should be ok with lots and lots of hiding places. i have seen my killifish dive in to a pile of java moss after a baby shrimp.
 
(Tagging onto this thread rather than starting a new one)

I just got 3 red Aphyosemion australes for my 55 gallon tank and my bosemani rainbowfish tried to eat them. Guess it doesn't help that I feed them red flakes :uhoh:. I moved the killifish into my small, very lightly planted 20 gallon tank which also contains 3 Amano shrimp and a vampire shrimp. Will the shrimp be ok, or do I need to return the killies to the LFS?
 
nah those shrimp should be fine your your killifish they are much larger than the killi can eat so they are safe!

as far as i have seen no killifish i have owne has picked to death a larger shrimp than they can eat, unlike some bettas and other fish i have owned ^_^
 
Killifish are so cool, I really want to keep them! That being said, I'd rather keep my tank without any fish, there's something I like about having only invertebrates, and I'd hate to see the little guys get picked off, even if they do reproduce faster than they get eaten. I feel like if I had killis, I would want a tank specifically for killis if I had them, and I'm already working on a new emersed set up, so I guess no killis for me anytime soon. One day...
