hi i have some questions about killifish...first of all the black water extract??? is that ok for other fish ..i have 7 serape tetras and 3 platys. also do i need to have females if im not interested in breeding?

What kind of killies are you asking about?
The term 'killifish' covers several entire families of fish, with very different needs. Not all require soft water.
In terms of breeding--again, will depend. There are a lot of killifish that have very short life spans. Like...the span of time a puddle remains. So not getting females and not breeding means having the fish for a few months.

It would help to know what species or variety of killi you're discussing since it's a fairly large and diverse group of fish we're talking about here. Also, it wouldn't hurt to share with us the size of your tank, whether it's planted or not, things like that.
I don't think black water extract is going to hurt any fish, though it can lower your pH and hardness levels, which might not be a good thing for fish that prefer hard and alkaline water. That's certainly not going to be a problem for your platy or tetras and many other of the more commonly available freshwater fish.
Regarding the killifish, you really do need to determine what kind you've got or are planning to get. There are some species that you almost certainly can get away with having just males in your tank. There are other species where having more than one male in a tank that's too small will lead to very aggressive fighting and the death of all but one fish.

its a 35 gallon hex tank and i have 6 plants in there right now.....do all species only live a few months?

No. Many species can live for years, but almost all of them are relatively short lived compared to most of your popular and common aquarium fish. For instance, I've had Golden Wonders live for 4 years or so, but those are sort of the exception.

and they are jumpers as well. like the others said its such a large range of fish its like asking about livebearers or cichlids with out knowing exactly what one its hard to say. most of the killifish people keep them in specie only tanks so they can keep their lines going.
