Killing Blue Green Algae / Cyanobacteria

I do not think using the Antibiotics is much of an issue unless the countries prohibit it over the counter. Then you have fewer options.

So they can be used in place of the black out, and the post treatment will last about 1-2 months before BGA comes back, or the aquarist has fixed the issues by then etc. With the 3 day BO, many think only to do the BO, not the KNO3...............and the BGA comes right back.

Not so with antiobitotics, but with antibiotics, you do not/cannot tell if you fixed the underlying cause. Which is more important to aquatic horticulture than simply killing BGA.

The goal is growing plants well, not killing algae:grinyes:

My tank has been blacked out since 4pm on Thursday. A local storm has knocked out the power and may not be back on until Sunday.

I have an UPS that is running an air pump. Hopefully this little surface agitation will keep the fish happy. The loaches seemed stressed, but im not sure if it is the flashlight or the huge bubbles rising to the surface.

How long does it take for a non powered canister to go bad? Will the 405, 304 and dual 350's need to be dumped? Or should they be turned on and then do the regular 50% water change on Sunday, assuming the power is back?

Looks like my day at the beach on Sunday has turned into a stay at home tropical adventure...
