Hi all, I have a bit of a dumb question... I have a water softner for our water because I have hard water. Whenever I do pwc I use cold water because it is not soft only the warm is. My question is after 6 years of doing this is it safe to use softened water in my tanks because some of my fish like soft water.
TIA,

Water that has been "softened" via water softener has had all of the Mg and Ca removed and replaced with salt.

Not good for fish. Fish need the magnesium and the calcium, not the salt.

So true. The ion exchange resin in your home water softener substitutes a couple Na+ ions for each Mg2+ or Ca2+ ion. Makes your skin feel great after a shower, you use less soap in the laundry....but it's not for fish.
