I would say 1000 minimum, go as large as you can.

nope, you couldn;t get any bigger than that? They do have other fish that would go comfortably in that size of pond.... have you looked into comets?

I have 2 comets that I'll end up putting in(they are in a freinds pond).
would comets be ok with fancies?

Most of the fancies probably are not hardy enough to be in a pond situation, plus they often cannot compete for food with commons/comets/shubunkins. Try to limit yourself to those.
