Kois and salt

If i has some mollies in a tank with some goldfish and koi carp and the mollies or guppies had ich would it be ok to treat them with salt? I mean can the carp tolerate it?
 
yes, but more importantly, how big is your tank? sounds like a really overstocked one to me.
 
Yes, carp and koi (goldfish, too) can definitely take salt. They're some of the hardier fish out there. That's why, when released by wayward fish keepers, they can do so much damage to native ecosystems. They're almost impossible to get rid of!

Your molly would probably love the salt, too. I've seen some kept in totally salt water (30 ppt).

Don't know about guppies, I've never kept them.
 
its 65 gallons mate and it's nowhere near overstocked!

how can you say a tank is overstocked and you don't even know what size it is....explain that one
 
koi get to be 3' long, and goldfish can approach 2'. it's overstocked, mate.
 
Hey mate!!! Koi can grow a lot bigger than that but given the conditions its in it wont grow anywhere near that, so anything else you wanna clear up mystic Meg.
 
their grown will be stunted and they will die. please move them to a pond. also, keeping tropical fish like mollies with coldwater fish like goldfish is a very bad idea.
 
Goldfish live for years even when they're stunted and they are members of the carp family and carp are much hardier than goldfish and will live just as long if not more. Yes they will become stunted but ive seen fish in lakes bigger than you can imagine stunted and have been in those lakes for tens of years. Once water conditions are right for them and they are being fed healthy food regularly and stress free they will live. Now stop annoying me your obviously an amateur
 
i've benn doing this for ten years, watch who you call an amatuer. i'm just saying koi AND regular goldfish are better off in ponds. if you love your fish you'd listen and not be so racy.

thanks for your help, it's not actually to treat ich, just to make the mollies happy. any recommendations on how many tsp per gallon I should add?
wouldn't it ve so nice if our rivers were full of kois and pretty goldfish :D
