Hey guys. I am trying to sex my Kribs and have come up short. I went to the LFS today and asked around about sexing them. The guy said that male will have a more pointed anal fin than the females. Are dots on the dorsal fin or the tail predicative of a certain sex? I saw some with just spots on the top fin and others with 1 big spot on the tail. Thanks.

depends on the breeding wether they will have spots on the dorsal fin. MAles are long and sleek where females are shorter and plum. Males have long pointed dorsals where females are rounded.

Dorsal is the top fin right? The ones at the LFS are not full grown and it is hard to distinguish their differences. I am going to look at the top fin to see if they are pointed or rounded. Thanks. Are the top fins pointed in the front like rams, or taper off to the back?

Tapered dorsal fins and beige (sometimes with a little light pink) bellies are pretty much males. Rounded dorsals and pinkish, almost cherry bellies are going to most likely be females.

Thanks.

Also, look at the top of the dorsal fin - on males, the color goes all the way to the pointy tip. On females, it stop short of their more rounded end of their dorsal fins.

Ah, so it seems both the top fin and tail are more pointed on the male than the female. Thanks. Nice fish also!
