Kribs or Comvicts

I have to agree with the general decision here... both Convicts and kribs are very very easy to breed... but convicts are work to sell or even give away and they get very very aggressive when breeding and herding fry around tank... The Kribs are almost as aggressive but gaurd a smaller space around fry so do not reek as much havoc... and they will breed almost as fast... Krib juvies are easy to sell and find homes for in comparison to Cons.. so Kribs it should be IMHO... and he why limit yourself to simple Kribs... Pelvicachromis pulcher ( formerly kribensis) is a beautiful fish but breeding them is not any different than Pelvicachromis teaniatus... and there are some fantatsic and sought after teaniatus... do not get wild caughts for ease of breeding-- get f1s... but you will have a great time breeding them and will sell the fry as fast as you can post just about..

Getting rid of kribs might be easier than the convicts. One of my pair has dropped about 50 fry and the other has dropped about 100. If 50% survive that's still a lot of fish to find a home for. Not everyone wants cons and they are plentiful.

Kribs dont beay eachother up as bad, My cons are always beat up after breeding. Dont worry about too many fry, skip a feeding and the babys magically disappear..

I love my cons and would never give them up. It is difficult to get rid of the babies though as they're aggressive fish therefore a lot of people don't want them. Kribs tend to get along with everyone so they're easier to give away. I could never get my kribs to breed, but they did look cool at least.

I'll agree with most of the later replies and vote for kribs as well. I had 2 pairs many years ago and they bred regularly when given their own tank (they never spawned in the community tank, unlike my geos and Tilapia).

i have con's in my fish tank.. and there over aggressive because they got fry.. i'm accually buying a 100gallon tank tomorrow for my JD's because the poor things are suck in a corner and the con's wont let them move </3.. but the babies are cute.. i only breed them because its my first egg layer. i'm gunna try to attempt to breed JD's =) gl tho

As everyone has said, convicts seem to breed no matter how hard you try to prevent them. I've bred them by accident the first time I had any. They've got loads of personality, but as stated, unless you have a way of disposing of the young, you'll want to think twice about it. Luckily, when I bred them I worked in a pet store. I simply took them to work and the boss took them off my hands for 25 cents apiece.
