I've read many sites and most say that they appreciate sand. I have sand in my tank. It's the Quick-rete all purpose sand. I got that because it's a bigger grain of sand so it won't be stirred up easily.

I brought hom 2 Kuhils today and while they are actively exploring the tank (much like they were at the LFS), I haven't seen them burrow once. I've seen them swim from the top and dive straight down but once they hit the sand they just swim across it. I'm wondering if it's because the sand is too dense or rough for them. What do you think?

I have pool sand with mine & they don't burrow. I have several caves they hide in although not all together in a tangle like some other people's do. (get more kuhlis, you'll love them & see them even more. Can you fit at least 3 more?)

Not sure how much you can tell from a picture as my camera sucks. I ran my hand through it and it's soft to me (I know, maybe not for them). It doesn't feel as course to me as beach sand does if that helps at all.

Looks like 1 of them burrowed. I had to go make sure that it isn't laying on the floor cuz it got out somehow.

I think I'm pushing it with the 2 that I have. I have 5 Lemon, 5 Von Rio, and 5 Blue Emporer tetras and 1 ADF. I would definately get more if it wouldn't be overstocked. I have a HOB filter rated for 30 gallons and I do WCs at least once a week . I've not had any trouble with water params and I have soft water. What do you think? Can I get a few more?

So I just vacumed the sand out the back corner of my tank and replaced it with gravel. The same grade that they had at the LFS. 1 has either burrowed or is hiding, but the other still can't seem to get it right. It keeps headbutting the gravel, but never gets through. Is that a problem?
