Kuhli loach and water hardness...

Well, I managed to get two that made it at the fish store for seven days, and they came home and are doing great 48 hours later. We'll see.... I just wish I could get more buddies for them more quickly. They either have all died off or been sold by that time, so I haven't been able to get a good group. The fish store said that if they don't die in the first 12 hours they will be fine, but I'm not sure I believe that.

Are you putting them through quarantine? They might be dying from capture/shipping related issues or they my have something nasty, I'd definitely quarantine them for a month before putting them in my main tank.
 
Sorry for the partial info! My tank is 29 gallons. It has been established for about 6 months. It has a lot of plants, mostly the easy to grow kind. The nitrate level is a very pale pink on the test strip 0-20, not completely white, so there is some. Sorry about the misinformation.
