OK time for some more information. I am a college student who works at a Petsmart and would love to debunk the LFS myth. Granted we have retards who dont know much about fish but there are some people with good information, its just a matter of finding out and asking different people.
My first hobby is Mixed Martial Arts (UFC) and if any of you guys have questions about it or worried about the safety/barbarism of the sport I would love to change your views on it. I participate in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu which I dont need to explain- a simple youtube search on it will give you more information about it than the avg person even knows.
Now I am obsessed with animals. I own 2 sun conures, a cat, parakeet, dead oscar, and blood red parrot chiclid. My first love was birds. It has now been replaced by fish because I am constantly learning new things about them.
When I first set up my 37 gallon tank i did not know very much about fish. So i put an oscar (4in) in there (bad move I know). My sister then purchased the blood red parrot even though i hate them. They got along fine and I was able to keep them alive for nearly a year but then someone murdered my oscar. I found him underneath my fish tank in a net (no accident). So now Im down to this parrot cichlid which I dont really want. After feeling like I knew a good amount of freshwater fish from learning from our manager + personal experience I thought i should move over to saltwater.
I got a great deal on black friday + my discount on a ten gallon tank and some reef rock+ argonite and other obvious saltwater stuff. Again I didnt know much about saltwater fish at this point so I thought that a 10 gallon would suffice. I know realize that I should be starting in at least a 55 gallon for a saltwater tank. But I dont want the cycled tank to go to waste so ill try out a firefish and see how long I can keep him alive before switching over to a larger tank.
Basically when I started I made lots of newbie mistakes but learned from these mistakes. I like to use prime water conditioner. Any questions feel free to throw me a message.
