I was thinking about going with Labidochromis caeruleus for my 29gal tank.
Probably would get 3 of them, 1 male and 2 females.
The substrate would be pool filter sand and with a lot of rock work.

Any thoughts on this before i start buying the sand and rocks

I'd consider a 55g minimum for a Lake Malawi community setup. For a 29g, I would consider julies and Lake Tanganyikan shelldwellers.

Hi!

:iagree:...with both.

Alright that's out then :)

You would be ok with a couple Pseudotropheus demasonis or Lamprologus ocellatus'. I kept 3 demasonis in my 29gallon before switching to a 55.

Demasoni won't work for long in a 30. If keeping for than one you need 1 male and about 8 females - not enough space.

You could try 1 male lab and a couple of females but it would be risky and not very pleasant for the fish.

Tanganyikans would be much nicer and happier - julies...say a compressiceps...something like that. There are some very nice 30g tang set ups on the site if you do a search. Also hopefully jpappy will see this and chip in with suggestions.
