hi all,

in an effort to save some costs of a RO/DI unit right now...i noticed that where i work we use laboratory grade water. i'm not sure exactly what it entails...its a milli-Q system...it looks like a fancy RO unit with four chambers...one carbon, two ion exchange, and one organic removal chamber...we call it distilled water at work...but i'm gonna guess it's purified in other ways too.

would this be ok for a fish only marine tank? i could use this water and dechlorinate it and add those fancy buffers and stuff...would it be good enough? i refuse to unneccessarily sacrifice any fishies..i love them...

:p

are you guys sure about it? cuz I used milli-Q water from my lab for my marine/reef tank and after I added the water for 20 minute my damsel died but I think it might be because the temperature all well anyways I will keep adding it and I will inform you guys how is it...

As long as the water doesn't spend anytime in contact with copper it should be fine. I remember a guy a while ago on RC talking about lab water and it had high copper because their was copper in the reservoir. Pure water like that can really pick it up.

Hey guys it works I have been changing the water with the milli-q water form my lab and nothing have happen to my fish yet so dont be afraid of using it

Just be careful to add trace elements etc. too. Pure RO is not good alone.
that is why we add salt.
pure RO/DI is not goo for freshwater, but great for saltwater because of the obvious addition of salt

as suggested that water should be fine, but i would be worried if the company doesnt replave the deionization media often enough. id get a tds meter just in case.
