In the LaMotte Nitrate test kit the Octa-Slide has readings of 0.25 to 10.0ppm. I read somewhere that this test kit is a low end reading.

What I'm trying to see if lets say I'm getting a reading of "8.0" on the Octa-Slide. Is this a low reading for Nitrate and should I do something about it or is this reading so low on the scale that I should not worry.

Thanks

John

I wouldn't call 8 ppm low, but it's not something to lie awake worrying about. To me, low is below 1 ppm, but I have have very healthy reef tanks with significantly more than 8 ppm.

Really? I start losing sleep when my nitrates creep above 2.5ppm or so.

But then again I always was paranoid. :dance2:

No. Nothing I can attribute directly to the nitrates - hence, my self-diagnosis of paranoia.

On the other hand, I am preparing to move into the wonderful world of SPS and acropora for the first time soon. Not sure I'll ever sleep again . . .
