ok, so i have one gigantic (2") multi; obviously a male.

what about the other five? they're all smaller. two are about 1", probably females.

but i'm not 100% sure about the other three. i think one's a female and two are males.

is there a color that's more male-ish?

i believe that my males are more whitish, and the females are browner. but their size is sort of intermediate, and i can't really tell.

behaviour sort of suggests that i have 3m 3f also, but honestly they don't do a lot of moving around anyhow, so it's not been easy.

They'll sort themselves out, just keep an eye out and be prepared to move any fish that get beat up. Aside from size (when mature) there's no real difference in appearance between the sexes.

Just size.. look at who you male is aggressive to also

Even size really isn't a good indicator as you may end up with a smaller male and a larger female. Venting is the only 100% method for sexing cichlids but I'd say in your case that it will work itself out as toddnbecka said.
