Lamprologus brevis (Kitumba)

Question

The brevis group I gave to the kid from church (Sean) are some of the best looking brevis I have seen in the hobby. Sean did his first water change yesterday and one of the brevis kept nipping his hand. The brevis never tried to nip me, do you think they may be guarding eggs/fry?

I've had a female calvus go after me hand pretty aggressively and she was guarding fry.

Here's a pic of one of the brevis in Sean's tank from this weekend. Sean's dad (Jeff) took the picture.
I thought he did a good job focusing in on the fish and getting the foreground blurred.

I would assume that the male is guarding fry or getting ready to guard.. I had Hecqui go after my hand and bite the crap out of me when guarding eggs or fry..

Most likely, IMO.

Nice looking fish, although I'm surprised to hear they're so mean. Even my spawning sunspot brevis are very shy and will dive in a shell at any moment. My ocellatus on the other hand, started attacking my hands the day after I brought them home when arranging their tank. They've never stopped. They'll attack the syphon hose, the glass when I get to close... anything.

LOVE EM!!! Thanks for sharing

Really nice shots! :thm: It's hard to imagine that sweet lookin little guy will grow up to be vicious, though. :evil_lol:
