large angel = bad idea ????

Good article, I have used both of the methods.
Just wanted to find out what type of an angel are you getting and from where?

Depending on other tank mates why not just get a smaller angel for $5 and let him/her grow and spend the other $25 on supplies instead. I have no idea how large a silver dollar coin is, but I bought 3 angels in April and the biggest one is probably close to 5"+ already. Spend the $25 on a healthy diet for your $5 angel and they will soon grow big.

Assuming you're getting a P.scalare (even though I think $30 is a bit high for a Liberty Dollar sized specimen - $15-$20 is the going rate for all but the most colorful koi varieties in that size range) and also assuming that none of your other fish are small enough to fit in said Angel's mouth, go for it.

As to acclimating, float it, add a little tank water to bag every 5 minutes until you're at ~50:50 bag water:tank water, empty half of bag water, repeat, pour entire bag & fish out through a hatchery net into a bucket, add fish to tank.

Angels are tougher than they look (Altums & black ones excepted), so emptying your bag onto the carpet and using a 9-iron to introduce the fish tot he tank directly would have nearly as high a success rate as the above procedure (just don't scull it):grinyes:.

:rofl::laugh:

So what type of an angel a silver dollar size costs $30???
If this is with shipping, get more then one.
I just picked up 2 orange to red KOI Angels same size for $10 each.

i also think it would be better to get a small angel and let it grow. they grow really fast so it won't take long for it to be silver dollar sized. it only takes a month or two at max for em to get that big if they are being well fed and have ample space.

P. Altum that size would probably cost quite a bit more than $30
Wild P.Scalare Peruvian red spot or others would sell for around $30 if your lucky

just answering your question about angels that size costing $30.

outside of that..full grown P.Scalare(domestic) can sell for $30 in a LFS ..some just charge an arm and leg for them.(believe me I have seen it:eek:)
