Welcome to the addiction, haha! But if you do still want large apples, post a wanted ad in our classifieds section. There are a few hobbyists in your state that may have canas or haustrums.
If it does get super cold in your area, you might do best with Japanese trapdoors, Viviparous malleatus or V. viviparous. They're a coldwater snail with a low rate of reproduction and they do not eat plants.
