ok so what is a good "cichlid freind" for a large oscar i am planning on getting
only about a foot long and it will have one large pleco
maybe a green terror or something like that?

it probably can but you dont really want to feed the oscars goldfish.

they will eat them readily but their natural diet is more vegetable based. just goldfish can lead to health problems, aside from the usualy diseases and parasites you can pick up easily from the feeder fish.

i suggest you mix up his diet with pellets..hikari are good and other prepared food like shrimp, blood worms etc.

PS if you do already do that then please ignore my post!

but a varied diet with feeders as treats is the best way to go (far far cheaper too)

*cough* to get back on topick severums or acara would be a good pick, firemouths are usually about the same level of aggression as oscars too. Convicts so long as they dont breed would work. or maybe another oscar?

u should get a red devil or u could get a spotted shovelnose but if
u get a shovelnose u better get a big tank if u don't have one already

LOL RD thats if you want your oscar to be a boxing bag or the goldfish its self lol thats just murder puting those togeather

go with a firemouth or a severum their the best IMO

Blue acara would be good they are such nice fish, not too aggressive but can hold their own most of the time.
RD i would say no, the oscar would get torn up.
Firemouth, if it is bigger than the oscar.
Severum, would be good, lots of different color choices.

if i were you and if u have an extra tank layin around, i would breed guppies as i do and use them as feeders. i also use convict babies as feeders. feeders are only treats tho like once a week. goldfish are too full of disease most of the time because they are crammed into a small tank with like 1000 goldfish in there. can you say ammonia spike!

Whats been said about the RD is right, i did it once and never again, as for the blue acara NO! you must remember an oscar grows soooo fast were as the acara doesnt, my oscar and acara got on well, untill it started to grow, my acara was stuck to one corner of the tank untill i took him out, i have a blood parrot with mine atm as well as a convict and black ghost knife, i chose the parrot because its a strong as a RD but as peaceful as the severum, when they fight none of them back down untill i look at them and there attention turns on me, but they have never hurt each other......

PS: !!!!!!!! Do not put an oscar in a 10g tank even for a month for the simple reason, these fish pollute (amonia) and alot of it, amonia stunts groth and will kill him and any other cichlid or fish you have, he will out grow it as well in no time soon, remember fish out grow there tanks no tank will stunt a fish's growth unless there is amonia in it.
all those fish in my tank are in a 55g and im thinking of going bigger..(only cause i want to add another oscar)

I have a pair of acara's and a jack dempsey in with my adult oscar's.
They ignore each other for the most part.
I definitely wouldn't put a red devil in their either. They are wayyy too agressive!
