Ok, planning out a 150gal cichlid tank. My pair of severums is going in there so far. Also thinking about an oscar, maybe some t-bar cichlids (new idea but they look pretty nice) a firemouth, something like that. Other ideas? Also, I'm looking for some type of bottom feeder/cat. Would pictus cats hold up in an environment like that? Any other, more exotic ideas from that area of the world?

I think pictus would go well in that tank. You may get lucky and get a mellow oscar but I haven't had much luck keeping them in community situations. I'd go with the firemouths. Uarus are large, peaceful cichlids. I think they'd go ok with severums. The T-bars and firemouths will compete for breeding space so breaking the bottom up into a couple of distinct territories will help if you do wind up with pairs. I always wanted a big SA tank. Let us know what you decide and post some pics when you get it going, please?

how big are your severums now? if you can get a younger oscar and raise him with the others he shoudl be okay with them, especially if you never feed live food (which you shouldnt do anyways). Synodontis cats make for good cleanup crews in cichlid tanks.

Female Nics are gorgeous and don't get too big. Electric Blue Dempsey? I've tried to stay away from the really large fish (then again, I don't have a lot of choice with a 75g), and gravitate to the really colorful species. T-bars are nice; also hrp.

The sevs are full grown and spawning every once in a while. But, they tend to pick out a territory and guard it, so I think in a 6' tank with lots of structure, even if i get some other smallish fish (3-4") they should be alright as they grow.
