Largest fish in a 5 gallon tank?

Thanks! Good suggestions and ideas...I will probably get a 5 gallon jug and cut a hole in the top part - fashion some kind of wooden cover for it that will conceal a light. For the heating and filtering I think I know of a way to play with the natural plumbing in the stand so that I can get water out of the bottle - no problem because it was designed to do that but can also get water back into the bottom as well. I am hoping I can get a glass 5 gallon bottle to help with clarity so that the fish will be easier to see. Plastic bottles have a bit more distortion. Actually...a couple of small tetras might be good - would not be noticeable at first and as people are filling their cup and looking at the bottle they would suddenly notice the fish....heheheheh

....also, as a rule, when I say minimal support I am talking about ridiculous amounts of time each week. I prefer to spend ridiculous amounts of time - and, unfortunately money - before I even buy the tank to set it up properly so that both fish and owner are happy and stress free. In my experience most people loose interest in the hobby because they don't set the tank up properly, loose fish, spend too much time and get very frustrated.

This really is not a good idea at all. What if the fish gets pored out? What if your friend didn't notice and drank the fish? This dose not sound humane at all. You also need to have a min of 6 tetras. I keep 7 neons in a 10g. I don't know off hand if 5g ok for 6 tetras.

Its a gag tank, the water coming out of the spout does not come from the fish tank, it comes from a bottle hidden within the stand.

A kid at school did this for a project, it was awesome, he had a small school of white mountain clouds in his...

why not set up a real tank, but drill the stand and install a water spout in the stand? rig the spout up to an air pump somehow, so that when someone gets water out of the spout, bubbles come up though the tank, like a real water bottle. that way there are no worries about the health of the fish, and it is still a neat gag.

I saw a successful version of this somewhere on the internet - it was with a betta.

There was a connection to a small sump (I think) inside the dispersion unit (where water comes out for cup) that housed the heater and filter. There was also a very small bottle connected to the output so human could drink non fish water. It was really amusing.

It could work, just will take lots of work. If done incorrectly, could be disastrous.

Only if I wish I didnt lose that fish (link).

The only fish I can think of that would be able to handle not having regular filtration and proper oxygen saturation for any length of time (longer than a kid's school project), would be a betta. Otherwise, you'd need to rig up filtration and aeration and all that. And mountain minnows, pretty and hardy as they are, need more room than 5-gallons if they are going to be living there for a while. But I'm just repeating what everyone else has already stated. ^_^;;

you just need to connect the air pump with an on/off pressure switch, so when someone uses the handle for the water, it presses down on the switch and runs the air pump.
