Laterite vs Flourite vs Onyx

hey -- ive checked, couldnt find any... you can try b&q garden centre for vermiculite and or perlite(im going to try hydroculite, its a clay based aggregate.........)

i know, i work there...its in 10k bags for between 2.50 - 3.50

let me know your tank specs, we could share ideas...

Most clay fired smaller size grains should work.
I think the trick is to get a good pore size without the grains becoming too light and float around like Prolfile/Turface etc.
Replanting with light weight gravel is a PITA and it's generally more difficult for the plants to root well in lighter density substrates.
I'd add some ground peat and mulm from an established tank and perhaps some iron but most clay will have enough iron.
