I've been doing some over due maintenance recently and now that the plants have gotten under contorl, I was able to take a few pics of them. One of them is around 4.5-5" and the other is around 4". So far they have been great cats to keep.
Here they are in case any of you cat or native fans are interested.

Also, here is the pond they will be going in once they get larger. Surprisingly, I took this one with my camera phone. I am shocked at how good it turned out.

Nice.

I kept a channel cat I caught out of a local lake over the summer but he didn't do well with the other fish and eventually died before I could get him back.

He was about 10" or so. The game department stocks them regularly so people can catch them for food.

I should have released him earlier. :(

Albino channel cats are going for about $3.00 at the pet stores.

It's pretty funny how channel catfish have now become "mainstream" with fish keepers.

Mine were about $3. The only reason I bought them was because I wasn't able to catch any young ones. Before that I had some longear sunfish that I got rid of because they were a little bigger than I wanted. I prefer natives over tropical fish, and catfish over any other fish...so I got some channels.

When I let these go, I'm going to set up a minnow trap in the creek to try and catch some really young longears. Those fish are very colorful and behave pretty much like a cichlid.

On the other hand, chacas are looking pretty tempting...:) I still have plenty of time to decide.

That sucks. Channels are awesome. I wish I had a tank large enough to keep mine for life.

My 75 gallon was WAY overstocked.

Redear sunfish, 2 Florida gar, 1 largemouth bass and 1 channel cat.

All are dead except the gar. They are now in a 150 gallon Rubbermaid stock tank.

I now have a blue tilapia in my 75 gallon.

The catfish and sunfish could not survive with the bass and after they died the bass died before my 150 stock tank was set up. :(

That is unfortunate. Even though it was definitely overstocked, I bet it was fun to watch at feeding time. I imagine that largemouth ate everything before the other fish knew there was food in the tank. :D

How big are you gar now? Got any pics?

I should have pics soon.

Gotta get them developed.

My gar are 8" and 12".

My tilapia is 10" and I also have a pumpkinseed sunfish of 5".
