Um yeah, talk about off topic!
PayPal is the leading online payment system. There are complaints about PayPal from everything to its security to its fees on the internet - no surprise there. There will always be dissatisfied customers. And yes, perhaps people have had their business or their personal finances ruined by using PayPal...but what is the alternative to selling stuff on eBay? None. It is mandatory to accept payments via PayPal now. And I personally roll my eyes when I sell something to someone who wants to pay via snail mail.
If you want to be 100% safe, pay everything in cash and never purchase anything online. Get the bank to issue you an ATM card instead of a debit card. Most people don't want to live like that...
So I'll keep trusting PayPal to buy my stuff online, and to accept payments. Their customer service may not be the best in the world, but it's decent. I had an issue happen where someone sent me a fairly big ($200) payment to an email address very similar to my own (one letter off) by mistake. They contacted the recipient of the mistaken payment and mediated the situation so that the recipient transferred me the money, waiving all fees. They followed up and made sure the situation got resolved. I thought it was pretty cool of them.
