Lawnmower Blenny and Hawkfish

I'm setting up my first SW aquarium. Its a 29gal FOWLR. I was thinking about getting a percula clown, scarlet/flame hawkfish, and a lawnmower blenny. One of the things I wanted to know is about not using RO water. From what I've heard, the basic problem with this is algae. Is there anything I can put in the tank that will eat the algae fast enough to keep it gone? Will the blenny eat hair algae? Also, I want to get a cleaner shrimp. I've heard that the hawkfish will eat the shrimp. Is that correct? Also for food, I have no source to get live food, frozen food I think I could possibly get off the internet. I'd like something that will eat flakes or pellets. I could also get marine algae over the internet I think.

Yes the lawnmower may eat hair algae but the other thing with RO water is it will help keep the cyano(red slime algae) down as well. It is very well worth it to use RO. Also, the hawkfish may eat your shrimp. I have lost 3 of my own shrimp. I still have one peppermint that has managed to hide from my scarlet hawk and he has eaten 2 cleaner shrimp. My scarlet hawkfish is also rather aggressive to any fish that perches on the rock and sand like he does. I have lost 2 gobies to his harrasment of them but I would not trade him for the world. He has a great personality.

I'd not personally risk feeding a $20-30 shrimp snack to a hawkfish. I'd also definitely get some frozen mysid shrimp, perhaps some other such as cyclopeeze. Fish like a variety of food. You can also make your own frozen food if you can get ahold of fresh seafood.

There are some things you can do to help combat algae but the best thing to do is to stop it with water quality which includes using an RO/Di unit. Ask Subliminal about his hair algae situation when not using RO/Di and going on a short vacation.

The basic problem with not using RO water is the fact that other water supplies CAN carry Phosphates which algae loves, however, fish don't!

petco also carries frozen food I would stock up on formula one and two either flakes or frozen, mysis, spirulina brine and some krill.
