Lawnmower Blenny in Petco 2nite! Should I go back 4 it?

They had a pair of red scooter blennies at petco today, one was dead, the other looked like a Lawnmower that had been dyed red. :( It looked NOTHING like my Red Scooter Blenny, that's for sure.

I am gonna buy some online too. I wish i could open a fish store but.... 4 thousand people in my town... I dont think i am going to make any money off of it

The thing I think about Petco fish is pretty much how I feel about puppies at pet stores.

Sure, you don't want to support the shop in that you'd like to see them either A. stop selling or B. own up to a little care, but when you fall in love, you fall in love, and it isn't that particular animals fault that it's in a crappy place...

Give it a home if you want....it probably deserves it.

I got a new dog not too long ago, from someone who was probably a 'backyard breeder', which is VERY unrecommended. I didn't really mean to, it just ended up happening. And so far, she's been awesome. I mean, how could you not love this face:

Sorry to get off topic a bit, but my point is, you want a particular fish, you find one, you should feel free to purchase said fish with a clear conscious as long as you plan to QT it and protect the pets you already have from infections it can bring in.

At least that's my 13 pence. :)

PS - I like the lawnmower as well, as long as you have a little bit of 'leafy green' in your aquarium. I really like the starry blenny posted above, too. Either would probably make a great addition to your tank. :)

Shelby.

She's a pretty good pup. We got her at 7 weeks and now, at 10 weeks, she knows her name, comes when called (most of the time) and will sit on command. She also sleeps 8+ hrs a night and doesn't get me up until at least 6:30.

So, we're sitting pretty now, and hoping for a promising future. ;)

She's definitely no lawnmower blenny, though!

:)

Adorable dog. what is a backyard breeder?

I do agree with the sentiments posted. I am not a fan of pet stores, but I bought 3 of my 4 cats from a pet shop, you just fall in love with things. However, be prepared if it is sick. I know fish are different than cats, but I bought a sick kitten from an animal shelter a few months back that after $700 of care in 3 days, I had to put him to sleep which broke my heart, but was better than watching the teeny guy dying in my arms without care, or in a cage. No amount of love and care can save sick animals sometimes.

We should really be QTing all fish anyway, no matter where they come from.
You know, we should have a poll to see how many people actually do this vs just telling people to. I know I fall into the "don't QT fish", but I am honest about it.. and I have seen recently that Salty420 does this as well (recent angel additions). Heck.. most of the pics I see on here about "Look at my new fish" are in the DT. I bet it is a really low percentage.. like 10% if that.

Personally, I have never lost a fish due to not QTing it. Only fish I lost are jumpers or fish just not aquarium safe to begin with and drastically shortened their lifespan (boxfish). Not to say bad things can't happen, it definately can and I have seen it many times in other tanks. I have just been very lucky or have a very good eye for healthy looking fish.

Cute name Damon, and by the way my dogs have decided Honda the lawnmower blenny is their favorite fish.

Backyard breeder is someone who breeds their pet (typically a dog) and is not in it for the betterment of the breed. A real breeder is often based out of their home, but they treat it as both a business and a cause. They'll know the breed, test for defects, not breed an animal with known defects or allow their animal to be with another that hasn't been tested. They typically show their dogs as well. It is a very expensive enterprise when breeding is done by the recommended guidelines, not the get rich quick scheme that some would like to think when they go about breeding "Spot" to "Dutchess" so that they can have "one litter before I get them fixed"/

You know, we should have a poll to see how many people actually do this vs just telling people to.

Sonmeone has made that poll before I think

Lucky. I was that was for a while, then BAM! 8 weeks fallow suuuuuure sucks!

UGH, that is how too many of us learn our lesson huh?
