Leaf Zone + Seachem Flourish: gilding the lily?

irishspy

There is a stargate in my aquarium.
Hi all,

Last weekend I bought the plants for the Betta Palace (listed below in the .sig, still have to do the pics post) and, while I was at the LFS, the owner sold me on API's Leaf Zone. (Yes, I was an easy mark. :wall:) Leaf Zone seems to have a good reputation, but it only supplies potassium and iron. I had planned to use Seachem's Flourish, which supplies the above, plus some trace items.

My question is this: If I use both together (to get the trace minerals), do I risk a problem from too much iron and potassium? Should I just use up the Leaf Zone and then switch over? (I think I'd prefer to be using Flourish, long term.)

:1zhelp:

thanks much!

Let me preface: I have a heavily planted tank 45g with pressurized co2 at 30 ppm and 202 watts of 6500k lighthing....so my plants grow fast.

However, as part of my fertilization regiment, I dose heavy on potassium and iron. Potassium is a macro nutrient, meaning in a high light/co2 tank you need to add more of it than just what Flourish can provide. Additionally, I also add a high level of iron because I have several "red" plants that I'm having trouble bringing out the red...often a sign of low iron.

Take from that what you will.
