It seems that no matter how clean the gasket is and how tight the nut is, I still get leaks on bulkhead fittings. I've tried flipping the gasket over to no avail. This is both on the drilled 40 and on the CPR overflow I have for another tank. Is there anything you can put on the gasket to make it more water tight. I was thinking that some type of silicon lubricant would, but don't have a clue as to whether something like that would be toxic.:1zhelp:

There is a silicon lube that is aquarium safe, I think marineland makes it.

Do your bulkheads come with a plastic washer that goes between the gasket and nut??? Mine do and I forgot it once with results like yours. Took it apart, added the nut and presto no leaks.

They don't have the plastic ring. I know what you're talking about though. I have used that type before.

The bulkheads I now have have a lip that is about 1/2" wide that the gasket is under. It's like the plastic ring is built-in.

I'll see if my LFS has the aquarium safe silicon lube. Thanks.

May also want to try some new gaskets just to be safe.
