Led Lights and where to get them.

So today my mom bought a nifty little cheap bic lighter that happened to have a blue led light in it. When I was messing around with it I saw how bright my glofish glowed under it and was wondering how you could get a couple cheap blue leds.

DIY is fine I just need to know where to get a setup or how to do it.

If ya need um right now, radio shack should have them. Otherwise I'd look online. But usually to get a decent deal on LEDs you'll need to buy way more than you need. I bought my moonlights for $40.00 and they fit right under my hood

Could I just wire my own? Does anyone know How I could wire my own set of leds up? I would like it to fit under my hood also.

You can EASILY mount a blue LED night light from Wal-Mart over your tank. I used to put them over my reef tank and my fish-only tank for night viewing.

The blue ones are easy to find, usually use only .5, .75, or 1 watt, but put out a surprising amount of light.

Just don't drop them in the tank or EVER let them get water on them.

I think I paid $3 each for them. Hard to beat that.

Also if this is too big, the seller has smaller and larger sets. But you cant beat $13 for a complete setup with power supply.

I buy mine from a boat lighting shop or boating products online. Shop around. I use boating products as they are water-proof! you can get them wet and even put the in the water. You will have to find your own 12V supply but low voltage, low wattage, brite output! Very economical to operate.

Yes, Just the more reason I think LEDs are the future. Even with planted tanks LEDs are starting to pop up all over the place. Its quite interesting to see.
