Legged Fish

Both axolotls and mudskippers would happily eat anything smaller than themselves.

Well, small enough that they thought they could swallow it, anyway. Another option would be a dwarf siren (Pseudobranchus axanthus) which could live in a tropical or temperate tank. Potential size is about 10 inches, but being much more slender than an axolotl means they could be kept with smaller fish. Picture here (note the tiny leg just behind the gill): http://www.ag-urodela.de/daten_arte...eudobranchus_axanthus-penninsular_florida.jpg

You won't find these in most pet stores for sure. Glades Herp ( http://www.gherp.com/ ) stocks them fairly regularly, although apparently not right now.

Here is what you are looking for. http://www.axolotl.org/

An axolotl is a type of salamander that never loses its gills the way regular salamanders do. They stay fully aqautic their entire life.
Actually this is wrong. They will revert to land form animals that look like Tiger Salamanders if the water gets to low in the tank or if the water quality is poor. And 9 out of 10 times, it happens cause most people do not do the proper care for these guys. They need coooler water as all Newts do.
Newts should be kept in tanks between 68-75 degrees, far below for Tropical fish. Most amphibians do not make good compainions for fish. When I was a kid, i kept newts with my fish and either they were picked on by the fish or the other way around. I learned my lesson as an adult and keep them in Species only tanks. Another species of newt that is popular is the Red Spotted or Eastern Newt. These are smaller than the Firebelly but are very pretty and can be kept in an aquatic tank with a land base.

I would purchase a few books on newts and amphibians and do lots of reading before trying this. Amphibians are not that easy to care for and require lots of maintence.

Thank you all,
I have decided to forget about getting a fish with legs as they all seem to need some sort of land.

Any ideas on some interesting, lively fish i could get though to liven up my 3 ft community tank, which currently has
1 red tailed red eye puffer ,2 mollies, 8 neons, 1 common plec
because its a bit on the boring side at the moment

thanks :dive2:

what are the other dimentions of the tank? how many gallons?

For the most part, your current community is incompatible...

i know the puffer isn't a good community fish but he, and the rest seem quite happy, only introduced him last week and, after having a go at evryone and everything in my tank, he now seems fine.

my tank is 3ft x 1.5ft x 1.5ft

unsure what volume that makes it.

thanks for your help

your options with a 55 gallon is vast, do you want to do preditory fish or community

well as i have community fish at the moment id have to stick with that but id also like something different from the usual ones
