Lemon Cichlids

I do not think that a 20 gallon will be enough room for these active little guys. they are extremly fast little fish and need a place to strech out. I would say they need at least a 30 gallon to be happy.

A pair of Leleupi should work. Do you have a 20g or a 20gLong?

You should get a true pair or buy some juvies and let them form their own pairs. Then get rid of the rest.

Their spawning behaviour is very cool. THey will raise up the fry(actually if the fry is removed i read taht the parents can becoem aggresive towards each other) with older generations helping raise the younger ones.

I don't think even a 20 gallon long would be enough room. They get about 4 inches long and are very active. if they start to jump a lot in a tank that can show that the tank is too small.

I would agree that a 20g would be too small for N. leleupi. As mentioned, the males get to be over 4" long, and they are very nervous when cornered. A lack of space can also make them very territorial. I would not venture a pair in anything smaller than a 40g.

Let us know if you want any other suggestions for a 20g. There are a number of good choices.
