Lemons and goldfish

Oranges provided vitamin C and also help with their color. No not all petsmart follow procedure so not all of them get oranges however I don't understand why you feel a fish should not get oranges in their diets when it has it benefits the fish as well as gives them a verity of diet. Even my own fish get a wide verity of foods ranging from frozen, veggies, flakes, pellets, and fruits. My guys are a good size and quality healthy!

Putting oranges in the tank is a fairly recent thing, so they may not have been doing it when you worked there, reptileguy.

FWIW the last two Petsmarts I've gone into had oranges in all their tanks, goldfish or no. Most of the fish were eating them, too.

it was only last summer and i still stop in and still no sign of oranges. they should be getting a complete diet without any extra supplementation. variety is good but i wouldnt trust it to have no ill effects in smaller tanks.

I did an experiment and put oranges in all three of mytanks with fish that would appreciate it (10G, 35G and 75G, see below for fish), and the only ones surprisingly that chowed down on them were the tiger barbs. The goldfish and gouramis picked a little but I had to pull the oranges out after two days. There way nothing left hardly at all int he barb tank after two days. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, tiger barbs are voracious and seem to eat anything that comes into the tank, including my arm at tank cleaning time.
