leopard frogs

I've kept leopards, so take this as the voice of experience:

A five-inch frog is large- bigger than your fist. And that is of course just snout-to-vent length- the frog will be more than a foot long with hind legs extended. And it will be able to jump several feet- except that there will be glass in the way, so when it tries to jump (which it will do often) it will smash its nose against the glass; eventually it will break its snout and likely get bacterial infections. You have to take special precautions to be sure they cannot see through the glass- which of course obstructs your view.

Ranid frogs are not appropriate for small tanks. Wood frogs or pickerel frogs would be better in that setup than leopards, but it's still not an ideal setup for any ranid.

I totally agree. Most Ranidae do poorly when kept in the confines of glass aquariums. Remember this people when you see those big, fat tadpoles sold at local pet stores. They're either Leopard, Green or Bullfrog tadpoles. All of these frogs are memebers of this family. It's best to keep these guys in an outdoor setting like a pond. Wood frogs are great little Ranids that do quite well in captivity if given a large enough tank.
