i want to build a cage for my leopard geckos outside. it wouldent be restricted by space, plenty of sunlight, and its warm year round here. it would probably be off ground, with some kind of moat to keep fire ants away. any comments or advice?

Three other things I would be worried about: snakes, birds, and hungry mammals. Also, what would you do during rain? Ambient humidity may be a bit high too... I am only thinking of negatives off the top of my head right now, sorry. Is there anyone nearby who keeps any critters outside that you could possibly copy designs from?

Personally, I wouldn't bother keeping leopards outside unless it was some sort of rack system on a covered patio. And then only maybe... its alot easier to heat a leopard tank inside the house than try and cool it/mess with humidity outside.

Couldn't have said it much better myself. OP you live in Florida, right? Leopard geckos should not be exposed to humidity levels 40% or above or they will develope RI. Sorry but this is a disaster waiting to happen. If you want to keep a species outdoors I'd look at members of the Day Gecko family instead.
