Leopard or Dwarf Puffer?

Definitley go with DPs. Like fballguy said, a male and two females would work, and you could also get otos.

I have 3 dwarf puffers in a 10 gallon and they are great fish! They are extremely entertaining and smart, and each has a distinct personality. For more than 1 puffer in a tank, you do need to be sure it is heavily planted with lots of cover to break up the line of site and prevent aggression issues. I also would not keep more than 1 male per tank, they are territorial. The ADF would need to go live with your betta, I'm fairly certain he'd get nibbled. I do keep an oto with mine and they rarely bother with it.

I've got 3 DP's in a 40 litre tank (not sure what that is in American gallons), they seem perfectly happy. If you do decide to get some don't panic if they don't eat at first, apparently this is very common, they just take time to settle into new surroundings. Mine will only eat frozen or live bloodworms, they won't touch the dried stuff.

Dwarf puffers will do great in the 10 gallon. You could do a male and 2 females then put in a bunch of plants.

Dont do the 'leopard puffer' it is probably a GSP which need 30 gallons min.

I don't think you'll have a problem finding them local. Every petsmart i've been to keeps them in stock (~$3 each). If you can't find them ask your LFS if they can order them for you, it will save you on shipping. Ordering fish online is fine for rare/expensive fish, but I can't see spending $30-$40 for shipping a $3 fish.

I don't have a petsmart where I live (well, I *think* there is one a couple hours away, but not sure). We do have a petco, but they only have the leopard ones. I'll ask about having them ordered. Thanks!
