Leopard Puffer

I was able to get mine to eat mosquito larva that I raised by placing a shallow container of water outside during the summer. But I do not know how much nutrients they have, probably close to brine shrimp whcih isn't too much. The ones I bought were already too starved from the store I bought them at and only survived for a few weeks.
 
Checked my ammonia today and it is too high still. I'll wait a few weeks before buying my first puffer. Does anyone have experience with Petsmart fish? A new one is opening up the end of January and I read that they breed their own dwarf puffers...and I was wondering if their fish are healthy, in general. I'd assume they would be healthier than any random fish store selection. Thanks for all your help.
 
Depends on the store and the employees it seems. For every bad story someone else has a good story. That is the problem with many big chain stores, they seem hit or miss. It also depends on the managment and how much freedom they give their employees. Since the tank will be for puffers only it will essentially be the quarantine tank. So watch them closely for the first few weeks after you buy them (it is hard not to as they are so cute). And really check out the tank they are in at the store and the tanks close by as most big stores use central sump systmes for their filters. So if one tank in the group gets sick, they are all effectiviely sick.
 
Do puffers go well with flounder? Maybe 2 dwarf puffers and 1 flounder (I'm not sure of the specie but I do know that it doesn't get very big). I can't find much on compatibility of these two species. I have a 5 gallon hex tank...

Thanks everyone for all your help. Though I'm extremely impatient, I now am waiting a full month for my tank to cycle so that my puffers will live their life to the fullest... :D
