Hello everyone, new to the board here.
I recently bought 4 leporinus fasciitus for my 125 gallon tank, which I just set up. They seem to be doing fine, they are approximately 2 or 2-1/2 inches in length, eating well, schooling occasionally, and no problems with them bothering white cloud fish, very tiny baby cat fish, sparkling gouramis, and kuhlii loaches in the tank which are generally much smaller than the leporinus. This is the first time I've had leporinus.
However, I've had an unusual problem, and that is I purchased a betta, and the next morning, the leporinus were picking apart a very skeletonized remnant.
Are leporinus aggressive, or just carnivorous scavengers? I'm thinking that just because they were eating the dead fish, doesn't mean they killed it. I've never had problems with bettas in community tanks, especially not dying so quickly like this.
Any info on leporinus in regards to keeping them in a community tank (and any suggestions for tank-mates) would be greatly appreciated.

I agree, even though it may not look like it Lepornius get VERY large and are extremely predatory. I would say even a 125g is a little on the small size for a full grown leporinus.

As for it going after tankmates, don't put in anything that's small enough to fit into it's mouth.
