OK, i think i've finally worked my rough plot for the SW 150 out to the point where i'm ready for you guys to tell me just how much I messed up. Let the critics attack!!

The Eel is not a remote possiblity until someone can back up the "not a threat" claims said here:http://liveaquaria.com./product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=136

The tang issue is mostly getting to decide on one/ two compatible without agression

Also, does anyone think that this is too mich of an herbivourous tank and that it would eventually cause a massive killoff due to a dwindling food source?

I wouldn't say criticism but, the eel will eat all, "Scarlet hermits (12),Blue-leg hermits12),Peppermint shrimp (5),Cleaner shrimp (3) and Pistol shrimp .

If those are the fish and critters you like other than that the above go for it. You can alway buy algae based foods for your critters if they eat it all.

On the whole it sounds like a good plan.

Sounds good but agree that the Eel will definitely eat the Shrimp and if hungry enough the crabs (they don't much care for the shells though). Crab and Shrimp are the mainstay diet of Zebra Morays so that is a for sure bet. Otherwise sounds like a really cool tank. I would add a school of Dartfish (Bar Gobies, Scissortails, Blues, etc) but that is just me. Anyway hope this helps and good luck!

I'd say a caribean blue tang would be asking for trouble between it and the yellow tang.

Also, it says your planning on eventually keeping an anemone/anemones, you are aware that most clowns are either tank bred or tank raised and have never even seen an anemone and becuase of that, they are just as likely to host in many corals as they are to host in an anemone. Are you also aware that anemones have poor survival rates in captivity and by buying one, you would be supporting the selling of something wivh is likely to die.

Great plan, really!

I agree with Dorkfish on the anemone thing, I learned the hard way :(

Anyways, on the tang deal, I have always had a lot of success mixing Pacific Blue Tangs and Yellow Tangs, no problem, and I have done it in two different tanks. The key is to make sure you introduce them at roughly the same time (same weekend or day if possible), and the Blue Tang has to be noticebly larger than the yellow. Forget about the Carribean blue, I have had no luck with them either.

Good luck!

Tang and Eel Verdict:

So the general concensus on the tangs appears to be that Adding the yellow t. and the pacific blue, is possible but would be pushing the envelope and asking for a crash? and that the carribean tang would not work?

out w/ the eel or out w/ the crabs and shrimp?
Which is worth it in the severe long term?

Any suggestions on visible (ie:pictures, guides) forms of how to construct a functional and stable cave syatem of LR for the eel/coral/fish?

Thanks.

You could do the yellow and pacific blue (by that you mean the regal tang/ "dory", right?) without "pushing the envelope", well atleast IMO you should be able to.

I say out w/ the eel if you want a more diversified tank and/or want your tank to eventually be packed full of corals (the scavangers will be a BIG help when your tank ends up like that), out with the inverts it can/will eat if you really want the eel.

As far as the rocks go,

For each tier/platform, you want at least 3 legs/supports. Since your going with a variety of sizes of fish, I suggest you create an aprox. 75-25 to 60-40 mix of large openings/caves to small openings/caves.

For visuals, I suggest you check out what the actual wild reefs look like (by looking at pics, marine life doccumentations and possibly finding nemo :D) and how other hobbyists tanks are rock scaped.

you should also use the plastic electrical straps to hold your l.r. together better. It'll get covered in coralines any you won't be able so see it. I'd loose the eel as well but, that's just imho.

plastic straps? teirs? i can findof picure a wild reef, but I don't understand what the straps/tiers are. The el is a tough descision, i could throw off the balance the selected inverts made in the tank, esp. the shrimp. on the other hand, it would be a very nice fish to hold residence in the tank...Its tough, so i'll probably research the smaller side effects..

Thanks.
