All this time I have had these 4 little Rasboras I thought were Espe's Rasboras. I got my Aquarium Fish Magazine in the mail this week and inside there is the fish that I have 4 of. Not Espe's Rasboras but Hengel's Rasboras. I am not disappointed I just wish commercial breeders knew what fish they were breeding. Anyway here is a link to a video of some of these little Rasboras. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PROOTpzybzM

LOL, I like the music!

Yeah, my LFS just placed an order for Otto cats. I've been looking for a run of the mill Otto for several weeks and no one is getting them in. However, the place they ordered from calls them "Hong Kong Ottos"...I've never heard of them.

Nice fish, like how they have got that shape on them similiar to Harlequin Rasboras. Oh Btw they are a bit agrresive arenet they?

Have you actually seen the fish they're calling "Hong Kong Ottos?" I'm just wondering if they are really refering to the "Hong Kong Devil Sucker" or river loach.

Hmmn. Well I can see making the mistake between hengels and espeis when they are young maybe. Coloration is fairly close though I believe an adult espei should be a bit larger. That being said are you sure they came from a breeder? May have been wild caught. Also it would be possible that whatever lfs you purchased them from received them unidentified and just made an educated guess. The various rasbora species aren't as common in lfs as tetra and such. Heck normally the only rasbora I generally see are harlequin (hets) and scissortails.

The guy I talked to at the store said they were labelled Lambchop Rasboras by the supplier. After I Googled it and found that the Lambchop is another name for Espe's Rasbora then I got me 4 of them thinking the color would spread once they got adjusted to the new home. Since they never got the orange coloration of an Espe's Rasbora I started to wonder what they were. Now I know. The LFS I go to here has actually had Red-Tailed Rasboras and others aswell as Harlequins and Scissor-Tails.

Yes they get a little aggressive if in small groups. I think that video is of 2 males.

Yeah, I found those online...the LFS owner is in for a surprise seeing as he ordered 100 of them and they are not regular otos!

I liked the music, too. Went along great with the video.

I have hengeli rasboras as well. Their proper name was not on the store tank but they were rightfully labelled "porkchops". Off and on they get more in, some have been espei and some are hengeli. The difference is obvious, even the tiny espeis are more red, but they are not differentiated, all sold as porkchops. I guess if somebody wanted the lambchops, it would be quite the job netting just those out of the large group.

My LFS had them labelled "Lambchop" Searching Google brings up Espe's Rasboras as Lambchop Rasboras. But these guys are the same as the ones in that video I posted the link for. It looks like Porkchop is another name for Hengel's Rasboras.
